The Widow’s Walk
A Poem by Wilfried F. Voss

Dear wind, do tell. Do I wait in vain
Every day in sunshine and in rain?
I am here to walk the widow’s walk
Each day, shadowed by a seagulls’ flock.
Come back to me. Come back to me.

Dear wind, do tell. Do I long in vain
Bowing at the ocean’s endless reign?
Where are you my love, where do you dwell?
It’s so long ago you said farewell.
Come back to me. Come back to me.

Dear wind, do tell. Do I watch in vain
To lay my eyes on his ship again
Many a billowed sails out at sea
But none to return my love to me.
Come back to me. Come back to me.

Dear wind, do tell. Do I cry in vain
In anguish, sorrow, and full of pain?
Will I wait until death’s ghastly grip
Or will the mighty Lord guide his ship
Back to me? Come back to me.
